Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a teacher of young children with severe autism, I am constantly brainstorming and seeking out ways to help them cope with their daily environment and inevitable changes. Our students need access to a variety of self-regulating practices to help them decompress and de-stimulate when things get to be a bit too much.

The items on this list will help my students find ways to manage their daily moods and behaviors and help them be more successful at their daily tasks.

The bumper balls will give my students with excessive gross motor stimulation a chance to engage in an appropriate activity. The calming tent will give all my students an area for them to decompress. The oral motor stimulation wand will provide relief to my students with oral-motor fixations, and the full length mirror will allow my students who enjoy self-reflections to engage in... themselves! And the best part, all of these items can be used as token systems for rewards for good behavior!
