My Students
I am a teacher at an urban public school that serves students grades PK-5, 2 PPCD classrooms, and a TCC unit. This is a neighborhood school in South Dallas that serves around 450 students. Personally, I teach 24 PreKinder students.
I work to instill a love of reading and competent social-emotional skills so that they may be as successful as possible in the upper grades.
I believe that if I can get my students to associate a love of reading with school that they will become lifelong learners. I also believe that if I equip my students with competent social-emotional skills they will be able to successfully navigate any conflicts that they may face in school and at home. In PreK, learning is all about quality of exposure! These students are often experiencing classrooms and non-familial adults and children for the first time. That can be very overwhelming. My students are in need of culturally relevant, hands-on materials in order to promote the best possible learning environment for my four- and five-year olds!
My Project
These materials will come in so handy in my PreK classroom! We will use all of these art and crafting supplies to work on many necessary early-literacy and mathematics skills! We will use most of these materials in crafting and building letters, numbers, shapes, and patterns!
These materials will allow my students to practice their early literacy and mathematics skills in a fun, exciting way while prepping them to be successful in Kindergarten!
Students, especially four- and five-year olds, love to build and create. And these supplies will allow for that. And while they are building their early literacy and mathematics skills, they will also be working on their fine motor skills without even realizing it.
We will use the bingo daubers to learn how to build upper- and lowercase letters through the use of abc mats. We will use the playdoh to build shapes, letters, and numbers in our fine arts center. The various playdoh tools will allow for students to get creative in their letter, number, and shape creations while exploring how tools work and how to manipulate them, all the while practicing their fine motor skills! We will use the craft tissue paper, googly eyes, and pipe cleaner for various art projects; we especially like making pretty collages with a multitude of colored pieces of paper.
