This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This mailbox system allows students to take charge of their learning and become more responsible and independent. During stations and whole group work, the students need a place to keep all their important papers. Currently my students are using a drawer system, but it unfortunately has not held up due to the frequency throughout the day in which we use them. I have noticed a lot this year that students are coming into school lacking confidence in their daily skills and require a lot more guidance.

As I love providing them with the guidance to grow independently, my goal as a Kindergarten teacher is not just to educate, but also to teach them that they can do a lot of things when they set their minds to it!

Making sure students are comfortable in building independence will help better prepare them for going to first grade, and providing them with this mailbox system is giving them a step in the right direction. I have noticed that my students are more engaged when they are given the chance to be more independent and take charge of their learning. By giving them this pull-out mailbox system, it will help them continue to feel confident in their independent skills and help them grow as individuals.
