This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This year, my seventh grade Science class is more eager to learn science than I've seen in several years. They come in excited and ready to learn. Every little thing I do with them, they just love. They make it so much fun to teach science!

With students eager and excited about science, I want to give them every opportunity I can to explore and expand their understanding of how scientists learn about the world.

I want them to maintain and expand their excitement for learning.

My Project

These microscopes will allow my students to get a first hand view of the cell and some of its structures. They will be able to see a whole world of life that is invisible to the naked eye, but can have a profound impact on ecosystems. Photos and drawings are useful, but nothing beats the "real thing"!

These microscopes will allow my students to generate their own information to use as evidence as they engage in scientific investigation and argumentation.

Our curriculum this year puts far more emphasis than before on the processes by which scientists gather and evaluate information for evidence. Students are in the role of scientist, not spectator. They are active, not passive learners, processing their own, authentic, discoveries.
