Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a high poverty district, my students are faced with many challenges on a daily basis. Despite their hardships they come to school each day eager to learn. I hope to provide them with a safe, welcoming environment where they feel challenged and have a meaningful learning experience.

My first grade students love to learn and always try hard to be good scholars!

They are learning phonics, sight words, and phonemic awareness to prepare them to be fluent readers. They are also learning different strategies for addition and subtraction. Many of them lack the resources for extra practice at home. This lack of resources may prevent them from getting ahead early in life. They also lack a lot of background knowledge and vocabulary because they lack the experiences that are thought of as "typical."

I can't control what happens in their home life but I can control what happens in the classroom. Every day I try to provide inspiration and experiences to help them learn to their full potential. I strive to provide them with an environment that creates students that want to be lifelong learners.

My Project

These items will be used in the classroom during math center time. These items will help my students learn math, as well as keep them interested and engaged.

The 100 chart pop it will help my students learn to count and recognize the numbers 1-100.

The pop it game will teach them to add two numbers to find the sum. They love pop toys so this game is sure to keep them engaged for their entire center time! They will love it!

The kite game will help with addition fluency to 10, which is a big first grade standard.

The building activity will be a fun way for the students to build, think on their own, and use their imagination. They will enjoy learning while playing!
