Magnetic Learning

Help me give my students a variety of magnetic learning tools and a standing dry erase magnetic board.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds within a suburban community that has a largely low socioeconomic level, and few opportunities for extended learning experiences beyond the school day. Our school serves approximately seventy percent of its population free or reduced-rate meals.

My students all are eager to do their personal best and to develop as lifelong learners.

Learning is not a "one size fits all" event; it takes many different approaches for students to find their comfort levels and their best learning styles. My students are gearing up to figure out their own personal best approaches to learning!

My Project

As a child, one of my greatest, simplest joys was playing with a set of magnets that my grandfather had attached to his old, 1950's metal floor lamp. Turning the magnets to try to make the poles attract or repel was just so engaging! I have found that my scholars share a similar interest and are fascinated with any type of magnetic learning tool, or just a simple magnet, even!

Engaging student learning is all about providing opportunities to learn things in new and attractive ways, and magnets are certainly attractive!

Pun intended!

This project will provide a standing, double-sided, dry erase magnetic work station that two scholars can share at one time, or two small groups can share. It has built in storage to keep magnetic learning tools accessible and tidy.

Additionally, I have requested a variety of magnetic learning tools that will provide many opportunities to learn and practice academic skills in both reading and math, as well as increasingly important STEAM skills of problem solving and engineering. I currently have a magnetic gears set and standard magnetic letters which will seamlessly incorporate into this center as well.

Perhaps most exciting is the memories that will be made when scholars get to take their turn to truly PLAY to learn! The shared experiences will be priceless.
