My Students

My students are the youngest learners in our inner city elementary school of over 300 students. Our classroom is designated as a special needs classroom for students with developmental delays, primarily autism. I celebrate what my 3 and 4 year old students can do and their enormous potential for greatness. They can learn the same curriculum as typically developing peers, just with necessary supports and adaptations.

My Project

Young students love using magnets. They are attracted to the individual letters as well as the ability to use them to make words, especially names of self and peers. More recently my students have been using them during math, but there are not enough magnets and center area to practice in pairs or small groups. The new magnetic board and manipulatives will provide a much needed center to promote foundational literacy and math skills.

By donating to our project, you will not only help students increase their academic achievement, but promote socialization and partnership as students engage in literacy and math activities.
