Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Magna-Tiles are a magnetic construction toy that can help children develop STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) skills in early childhood education. My students will learn spatial reasoning while learning about shapes, symmetry, and balance while building structures.

When using the magnetic tiles, my students will have the opportunity to develop skills in math/geometry, engineering, social skills, fine motor skills, self-control, critical thinking skills, and language development.

As my students engage with these materials, they will explore geometric shapes, practice counting, and measurement. My students will also learn engineering concepts through the structures they build with the magnetic tiles. As they engage and participate my student will also learn how to work together, communicate, and share ideas in group settings.

In addition, my students will develop fine motor skills as they build structures in addition to self-control as they practice waiting their turn. These magnetic tiles will also serve as a great opportunity to practice critical thinking and problem-solving skills as my students attempt to structure as they build. Most importantly my students will build on their vocabulary and practice letter formations as they begin to recognize letters and numbers.

I love watching my students use their imagination when building with blocks, so I truly believe that these different magnetic tiles will help their imaginations and physical development soar!
