My classroom is made up of a diverse group of young learners ages 3-5. Many come from high-poverty homes. All children in our district receive free or reduced-price lunch. These children enjoy exploring many different activities.
My young learners are a combination of typically developing students, students learning English for the first time, and students with special needs.
Exposure to high-quality experiences and materials will forever change the lives of my students. My classroom has learners of varying levels and includes students that have communication impairments, autism, developmental delays, fine motor impairments, as well as typically developing children in an inclusive classroom.
My Project
These new materials will help our students create and keep their innate love of learning. Engaging my preschool students in quality STEM and dramatic play opportunities at an early age will provide them with more career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) later on in life as well as thinking creatively and enhancing their innate love and imagination. My students will use the magnet block sets and imaginatively integrate their creativity in all academic content areas. The addition of silk scarves will allow my students to create automobiles, castles, animals, and anything they can dream up! My students will use cognitive, speech and language, and fine motor skills to accomplish these tasks. This is all done as they interact with their friends and enjoy playtime. All of these open-ended materials are so versatile that I will be able to constantly adapt how to integrate them into various lessons and connect their use to other content areas.
These new activities will help students cooperate and develop critical thinking skills that will help them for the rest of their lives.
My students may only be 3, 4, and 5, but I always look for new opportunities and ways to raise the academic bar for them. Now is the time to get them excited about school, STEM, and social and emotional learning. The more they love it the better they will perform as they continue their education. My job is to give them an exciting first experience at school!
