Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students live in a high poverty area. Over 90% of the students in my class receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Over 90% of the students in my class are also second language learners.

Our school actively participates in a Gang Reduction and Intervention Program-despite these challenges, our students are also bright, motivated students who love coming to school and are eager to learn!

"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire!" It all starts here! Magna Tiles are colorful, flat geometric shapes that are magnetic on all edges and allow students to build and create in 3-D! This, for many of our students, is a new and thrilling discovery! When students create and build they develop important concentration, spatial reasoning and math skills. A large ten frame for math will help students visualize our base ten number system and master early number concepts. Expo markers allow for easy practice and number writing reinforcement.

Even though many of my students live in a high poverty area, they deserve a classroom learning environment that is rich with high quality, engaging STEM building sets! Let's put some super STEM building sets out and watch the learning happen! I know the Magna Tiles will motivate and encourage our little learners to build and see what they can create! I also requested a few sets of magnetic people to add to the fun! All of this is so very important. Thank you, thank you for caring about the little humans in our class, giving to our project, and sparking a fire!!
