Help me give my students an interactive music experience through a variety of different avenues.

My Students

I teach music to preschool through fifth grade students that face a variety of challenges everyday. All of the students come from a low income, high crime area but have an eagerness to learn and grow.

They want to make a difference in their lives.

They know the difference between right and wrong and I am able to help guide them to make healthy choices. For most of them, school is a safe place to come and get away from outside world problems.

My Project

The materials I am requesting will be used for a variety of grades and have a variety of uses. The picture books will be used to create songs and sounds to explore how music and literature can come together. It will also allow the students to be creative and explore what works best with each book. For example, the egg shakers could be used to represent the ocean or a river in one of our books. The students will us the rhythm sticks and fruit manipulatives to create and learn new rhythms. For example, the word grape only has one syllable/sound, so "grape" can be used to teach about quarter notes.

The music history books will be used to teach about different historical figures and their effects on music today.

The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to get more materials about different historical figures, as well as materials on world music. I want to show the students where today's music comes from. The whiteboard will provide visuals for the abstract concepts we will be learning.

All of these materials will positively benefit each and every student and will help me make music fun and relevant.
