Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Who are my students? They are future engineers, mathematicians, philosophers, doctors, lawyers, or anything they can dream of! The children in my classroom are curious, resilient, persevere, intelligent and above all, compassionate. They care for each other and they show it every day in their actions! Although they are only 5 years old, they are wise beyond their years. They go out of their way to include all of their classmates in activities and never let someone sit alone. They truly are an impressive little bunch!
My Project
Morning meeting is always a perfect time for students to sit together on the carpet and share ideas, songs and experiences. It used to be that students were expected to come into a classroom, sit at a cold metal desk on a hard chair, and work on their own all day. We now realize that in the 21st century, that type of learning environment is not supportive of all students' learning styles. While some may choose to sit at a traditional desk and chair, most students love to have other types of options including stretching out on a carpet! One thing that they all love to do is work on the floor with clipboards or with center materials as they learn in small groups. This can only happen if they have a clean, soft place to set up camp! It truly will be a whole new world for them to experience their 'magic carpet ride'!
