If you dream it, you can achieve it. For most children, this statement can be true. However, for children from low socioeconomic groups, this statement is far from reality. Many of our students with limited resources are unaware of the endless possibilities that life has to offer. At our elementary, we have developed a summer program to nurture the lives of our students and broaden the life vision for these kids. We have the program, but need assistance in seeing it through. Together, we can make our “dream” a reality!!
Our vision began in June 2023, when our school sponsored a program that ALL our students could access.
The programming was project based/hands-on learning. Last year, our program focused on cooking, camping, animals and community service while incorporating reading, writing, math and social emotional learning. It was a huge success.
Approximately ⅓ of our population participated in the program daily with attendance strongly encouraged but not required - students lined up daily at the door waiting for our program to begin. We were able to provide both breakfast and lunch along with transportation to field trips. To save on costs and promote life skills, we also utilized the MAT bus system to help our team of students/staff get to the Great Plains Food Bank to volunteer. The students have been using the background knowledge they gained from this summer program throughout our school year.
Unfortunately, the budget provided by FPS has been drastically reduced for the upcoming 2024 June School. We are asking for financial support to supplement June School in 2024. In addition to the equine experience, our team will continue providing our students with cooking, gardening/camping and community service along with a new strand involving self-care.
