My Students

I am a Kindergarten teacher in a K-5 elementary school in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Our school is in a rural community with many of our students from low-income and single-family homes. Despite the challenge this sometimes brings, I make it my goal to present to my students an environment that is filled with meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for creativity.

My amazing Kindergartners are curious and eager learners!

From the minute my students walk in the door I seek to help each one reach his/her greatest potential by providing unique and innovative learning experiences. This is sometimes a challenge as funding for projects is so limited and support from parents is also slim. My greatest desire for my students is to see each one develop a love for learning which will continue throughout their educational career.

My Project

What child doesn't enjoy hands-on experiences? The fact is; they all do! When this is incorporated with the science curriculum, some exciting and great learning experiences will occur! When students are engaged in lab experiences, problem solving and critical thinking skills are developed. When children are engaged in a science experiment, they are forced to think and ask questions. They are also practicing cause and effect thinking. The academic benefits of conducting science hands-on experiments are numerous! Science is fascinating to students. It gives them moments of wonder and being in awe of something. Excitement and moments of discovery are priceless and what every teacher longs for!

If you're going to be a scientist, you need to look like a scientist!

Being able to put on an apron and googles at science experiment time adds to the excitement and the experience. While wearing these aprons and googles, the children will experience learning in a way that will remain with them, and also provide the protection that they need. Science is fun, and children need to learn that at a very early age.
