My students need this MacBook laptop to learn at their fullest potential. I currently teach in an ICT setting that is a blended learning environment that does not have adequate technology for the students.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
The use of computers is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in math, ELA and writing. Using the blended learning model in the classroom allow the teachers to create fun and engaging lessons, as well as allowing the students to research, create, write, and assess. The laptops would allow students with IEPs to be assessed on the computer, as well as have the computer read the assessments to them. The laptop would also allow for the students to engage in meaningful conversations while researching, and creating group projects.
By granting our classroom a mac book, I believe it will
improve their level of instruction by eliminating many technical difficulties caused by outdated software.
It also will give students an opportunity to become familiar with technology that they will be using as they enter their adult life in the work force. I believe it is important for our scholars to have the real life experiences provided to them in school that they wouldn't necessarily get at home in a low income area.
