I teach 4th grade at a fine and performing arts charter school in Michigan.

La, la, la, la, la!!! My students love music! Being at a performing arts school, I try to integrate the performing arts in my general education classroom. One thing that you would see if you observed my classroom is that we sing a lot. The students write songs about topics that we study on a regular basis. However, we have been finding that the same "beats" keep popping up when they write a song. They songs are starting to sound the same, and therefore becoming less exciting and memorable.

The solution is this fabulous karaoke machine. They can take any CD and essentially erase the voice that is on the machine, enabling them to use the music that remains as the beat of a song they are writing (legal for educational purposes). Additionally, I am requesting the Motown Cd's so they can learn a little bit about Detroit's history. Hearing the music of the now struggling city's past, will give them more hope for the future. They can learn about history while writing a song for math or science. It will be a very powerful integration tool.

Your help will give my students the tools they need to continue to learn through the lyrics they write. It will make them wanting to continue writing lyrics - and therefore continue to want to "dig deeper" and get more information beyond what they have learned in school. You would be amazed at how excited these students get about the flow of energy or the food chain when I tell them they're going to write a song about it. Your gift would be helping them to continue their interest in a new and exciting way, while also learning about their heritage. Thank you in advance for your support!
