I teach in an intensive intervention (self -contained) high school classroom. I have students in 9th-12th grade. My classroom is very unique and I have students at all ability levels. In my classroom, we focus on academics and work skills. My students need to have hands-on learning opportunities to help guide them and prepare them for the transition to adulthood.
My students are a bright spot in our school.
They have a love of learning and enjoy each new opportunity that comes there way. They do many things to help around the school and make our community the best place possible. They help with coffee and lunch deliveries to teachers, running errands, in the school library and in other jobs. They love being active in our community.
My Project
This project will allow my students the opportunity to take many of the life skills that we work on within the classroom and put them to use in the community. This will be a fun activity that will end with a trip to Chili's. We will start by studying the menu, learning to make a choice, and then practice ordering. Students will then get the chance to go to the restaurant and put all of their practice to work!
Many of my students do not get to go to restaurants with friends, this is an extremely important and wonderful opportunity for them!
They all enjoy talking about foods so this is a high-interest area for them and a great way for them to have an opportunity to practice in an area they love.
