Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a group of six to seven year olds who are eager to learn! We enjoy exploring and creating together. We guide our learning in our class. We do this by choosing activities which help us learn at our level, using STEM activities, creating to show what we have learned and working together with our classmates.
We are a bilingual class and are a great group of English language learners.
We are learning to listen, speak, read and write in both languages. We are a group of persistent and loving students. We choose to extend and spread kindness in our class and our school.
My Project
Our current classroom library could use updated books. We need many more informational/non fiction books to read for enjoyment. I can honestly say that each and every student enjoys listening to a read aloud and each and every students truly enjoys reading to see what the book is about. We have our favorites that we continue to read. A lot of them are books on animals and space, which we don't have a lot of.
Having more books available in both English and Spanish, can continue to build a love of reading.
We can have tools to help strengthen our reading ability and expand our vocabulary in both languages. We can build relationships with one another by discussing the books we read. All of this can be done when we use our books during Self Selected Reading time, during literacy stations, during word work and any little moment we have minutes available in the day.
