My Students

My students are incredibly gifted and talented in music. The music of New Orleans, especially traditional jazz and brass band music, is so entrenched in their culture that they live and breathe it every day. These students are incredibly bright and deserve the opportunity to perpetuate the great musical heritage of our city!

New Orleans students need and deserve a great music education and great resources from which to learn.

These students are some of the best young musicians in the world, and deserve a music education that is second to none!

My Project

The instruments and accessories in this project comprise some of the basics we'll need to get our concert percussion section rolling this school year! These instruments (suspended cymbal, wind chimes, ratchet, vibraslap) are commonly found in concert band music, and we'll need them to be able to play much of this literature.

At LS, we encourage all of our student musicians to be well-rounded.

For our percussionists, this means learning to play a variety of concert percussion instruments in addition to the snare drums, tenor drums, bass drums, and cymbals we're used to seeing. This project will help us train our percussionists on these auxiliary instruments to both make our concerts sound better, and set them up for success in college and community bands after graduation.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
