As this is my first year teaching, I want to start off on the right foot! My students deserve to come into a classroom that is academically rigorous, comfortable and inspirational. I have been so fortunate to have students that come in every single day with the warmest smiles and willingness to learn. The love that my students have for each other is indescribable. We work together everyday to become stronger readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, historians, and empathetic community members. I am proud of how far we have come in under eight weeks, and I look forward to growing together even more each and every day!
My Project
Our classroom library is in desperate need of low level books. These books will be used by students who are in the early stages of reading, in order to develop skills that are necessary to create a reading foundation. At this moment, our classroom library has a total of seven books between levels A and B. For students that are working extremely hard to improve their reading skills, seven books is not nearly enough to strengthen their reading abilities while developing a love for literature.
With more reading choices, children seek out opportunities to read as frequently as possible.
Providing more texts to students to choose from, allows them to have autonomy of what they are reading. Each child deserves an assortment of books, appropriate for their skill set, to be at their finger tips at all times.
These books will be used in our reading workshop each day as we build stamina, practice decoding, and work on building comprehension. Many students that are reading at a Level A or B do not have a classroom library at home. With the addition of these books, students will be able to borrow a book each night to read to their family members, practice their skills, and ultimately become a stronger reader.
