Our school is quite diverse both economically and demographically. Our school has a wide range of student abilities and the task of meeting all of their individual needs and interests grows in difficulty.
My students at DJAES LOVE to read, but my library needs updating.
I would love our third grade classes to be a place where students can be inspired to love to read. What I love most about our students is their interest in learning. They want to know MORE, they want to dig DEEPER, they want to PERSEVERE.
My Project
Our classroom library is in desperate need of updating. After almost two decades of teaching, kids interest have certainly changed. Children need a variety of genres, reading levels, and interest categories to select from. The books in our classroom library are falling apart (literally) and need to be replaced.
I would love to add books on kindness, empathy, and perseverance into our library.
Now, more than ever, children need to understand how kindness can spread and how it can start with ONE student. Children need to hear how their actions cause reactions.
Children need opportunities to use their imagine and find a way back to books and away from electronics.
