Loving to Read in Science

My students need books for our class library which they may check out from me, read, and return. We will also be using these texts in class to increase their reading comprehension and to build context.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Our school services students from all walks of life, and we strive daily to instill in all students a love of life-long learning. In addition, another of our school wide focuses is to foster within all students a habit of daily reading to improve their reading, comprehension, and writing capabilities.

I want to provide my students with books to help increase their lexile levels as well as their comprehension of various text types.

Our classroom is in need of books, both fiction and non-fiction, which will help students understand the importance I place on reading. Students also need to realize the importance that reading and comprehension have across the curriculum. Finally, through the use of the non-fiction texts which will be aligned to our LSSS topics, students will be able to better understand abstract science concepts through the carefully chosen media.

My Project

I want to provide my students with books to help increase their lexile levels as well as their comprehension of various text types.

Our classroom is in need of books, both fiction and non-fiction, which will help students understand the importance I place on reading.

Students also need to realize the importance that reading and comprehension have across the curriculum. These texts will also help students by providing pictures that will help them to build prior knowledge and add context to their existing knowledge. Fostering their love for independent reading as well as increasing their comprehension and understanding of what they are reading in different types of text is important to their further growth and success in life. Finally, through the use of the non-fiction texts which will be aligned to our LSSS topics, students will be able to better understand abstract science concepts through the carefully chosen media.
