Loving Literature

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn to love reading! During our whole class read-aloud time each student will have a book in their hands and will feel empowered by literature!

My Students

My First Grade students are curious, energetic and love learning. They particularly love learning through literature. I teach at a Title 1 school where at least half of my students are economically disadvantaged. In addition 10 of my 25 students are either English Language Learners and or Students with disabilities. Due to the diverse population of my students, I have found read aloud time is essential to fill in the gaps. Real-world learning can come through literature during whole class read-aloud time.

My Project

During COVID most students have not been able to enjoy whole group read alouds at the carpet. It has been really difficult to engage students without the close proximity of "carpet time". Students have not felt as connected to one another as they have been in past years. Having books in hand during whole group reading time will increase camaraderie and emotional closeness within the classroom. We will all be working on the same book and learning the same lessons from enriching literature.

Class read-aloud time brings a sense of community and learning within the group.
