Our school includes a large variety of students from various countries all over the world. One hundred percent of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and we are a school-wide recipient of Title I funds.
One of my favorite parts of my job is seeing the change that my students undergo over the course of the year.
I am fortunate enough to see kids develop ways to express kindness each and every day. They use manners that weren't present in August. I have seen students who loathed reading turn into book lovers. A great part is hearing students say that math is their favorite subject because that was not true for me as a child.
My classroom is full of faces and personalities that will impact our future world. As a teacher, I believe it is my job to do everything I can to make sure that impact will be a positive impact.
These lanterns (with bulbs and electrical sets) will be hung over our small group reading table which is used multiple times each day for more individualized instruction. I use lots of lamps and floor lights in my classroom to be able to keep the bright, fluorescent lights off. With lamps and music playing, students are much more comfortable and I find they work with more stamina as if they were at a kitchen table instead of a table in a factory. These lights will provide needed light in our back corner so the overhead lights can remain off.
Even in third grade, students still often times come to the carpet for lessons.
Also, the front carpet is always a choice if they feel they need to separate themselves from others to be most successful. I chose this rug because they are responsible for knowing all the states in Grade 3, but this is a fun, bright map that will make for a cheery environment. Lastly, I am asking for 2 caddies for our table supplies. In my classroom, students have few of "my" materials but work from caddies that hold a host of materials. This encourages them to help each other clean up and put things up because they are all depending on the caddy being full next time. They can earn table tickets for helping each other and working as a team to promote team work and a helpful attitude.
