My Students
My students are very special learners.
My students are preschoolers with Moderate to Severe Autism and Speech and Language Delays.
Here in my early intervention class, I reinforce their behavior, along with their language and life skills development. In my classroom we focus on how to communicate with others, take care of ourselves, and how to function in a society that notices differences. My students mean the world to me, and are beautiful children to know. I want to make sure that I can prepare them for life after they leave my classroom, and prepare them for the challenges ahead of them.
My Project
Materials such as the "What's Inside?" and "Alphabet Mystery Box" will provide engaging hands-on materials for my students with moderate/severe autism and speech and language delays. My students often have times expressing themselves, but they love to play. Many of them recognize their rote concepts such as letters and numbers, but stop there. With the engaging materials we can help bridge the gap between rote concepts and fully functional language.
Providing materials that are engaging create opportunities for language practice, where even my students who are non-verbal can communicate on their AAC devices.
Students will be able to describe the items pulled from the boxes and request new objects. These boxes will work on labeling, creating full sentences, and supporting functional language with staff and peers.
