My Project

My school supports a diverse group of students growing up in a high-poverty city. Many students come to class with limited ability to speak English and communicate with others. Several of my students have ADHD, special education, social-emotional, fundamental life, as well as language needs.

I am committed to helping my students grow a love of reading with engaging, high-interest books that they can get lost in.

It is so important that kids have an outlet that is healthy and fun. Reading is often a chore for kids at this age. It is my goal to change that for my students.

I have selected books like The City of Ember, Ivy and Bean, Graphic Novels, beloved chapter books, as well as new classics that will encourage my students to get away from everything and relax with a very good book. Learning to love reading is something that has to be taught, and as a teacher, I hope to model and encourage this love in my students.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
