Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about their histories and how they are connected to social justice today through films and documentaries.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students represent the beautiful diversity of students coming from all parts of the city. They are passionate about learning and seeking independence in the most transformative part of their development. They are energetic, inquisitive and ready for opportunities.
My students bring such unique perspectives and experiences into the classroom.
This dynamic further enhances their creativity and potential for learning. I am in awe of the manner in which they challenge each other's ideas and build off of them to gain a better understanding.
My Project
The films and documentaries in this project will give students the chance to understand their histories and cultural backgrounds. In doing so, they will gain a better understanding of current events and the roots of racial conflicts and social injustices. Students will also get a chance to reflect on how these events impact their lives and could potential impact their futures. For example, in the beginning of the year would be a great time to learn about the history of human beings and how we are all connected.
Students with relevant historical awareness and cultural pride have a sense of belonging and purpose in learning.
My goal is for students to learn about each other to gain a better understanding of our society and how it functions. This understanding will lead to students making positive changes and supporting each other's success through math learning.
