Lookin' Sweet: Rewards for PBIS Behaviors

My Project

My students are in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade at a PBIS school. Despite the emphasis and exposure to PBIS, many of the students struggle to follow class and school expectations. To curtail the excessive disruptive behavior that manifested after Winter Break, I implemented my own PBIS store.

After implementing this PBIS store, many of my students not only became more productive in my classroom, but they also became more engaged in PBIS, which they now see can be rewarding.

This store has also enabled me to acknowledge and recognize the students who consistently satisfy our classroom expectations, which was a shortcoming of our previous classroom behavior structure (Student-Teacher Scoreboard).

However, maintaining this PBIS store is difficult. Our school is unable to allocate funds for stores that sell food, and purchasing all these materials every two weeks myself is difficult when the cost averages $100.

Therefore, this year, I am requesting 15 boxes of Takis, 10 bags of Charms Blow Pops, 5 boxes of Rice Krispies, and 2 four packs of Capri Suns. These treats will be available for purchase in our Reading PBIS store. In order to purchase from the Reading PBIS store, though, students must demonstrate positive, productive behavior in the classroom and meet established expectations, which range from being silent and attentive during instruction to being respectful to peers and adults. As a result, the treats you assist in purchasing will not only incentivize our students to meet classroom expectations, but these rewards will help them understand how to compose themselves in and out of school.
