My Students

My school is located in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is a Title I school in a low-income, urban community. Most students do not have the necessary materials for school which makes school difficult for them. Many of my students are not fortunate to have the ability to hang their work throughout their homes and celebrate their hard work. My students are wonderful kids that put their heart and soul in their school work. In the short time they have been in 1st grade, they have enjoyed seeing their work displayed on the walls for others to see. Because of spacing and room configuration, my room does not allow me much hanging space, limiting the amount of work I can post. As their teacher, it is my job to create an environment that will foster a love of learning. I want my students to walk into a warm and inviting room, surrounded by their work displayed throughout, so they can continue to celebrate themselves and each other.

My Project

This project will not be used at home. It will be used in the classroom. I want my students to be proud of their work and I want to be able to display their work throughout the room. Due to the configuration of my room, I am not able to display as much student work as my students deserve.

This project will allow me to display all the students in my class without having to choose who will be on the wall this time.

My students will gain a confidence in their work because they will see their work being displayed on a bi-weekly basis regardless of their work and not "random choosing" as is the current practice.
