My students need take-home book bags and little white blank books so they can read at home and make their own book at home to go along with their reading book.
"Look what book I brought home tonight!!" I want my students, who are book-loving and avid beginning readers, to enthusiastically say that each day as they come home from school. My students live in a community that does not have a public library right in town and our school library will be open for just 2 and a half days per week this school year.
Think, for a minute, not having access to take-home books every day.
That would be a missed opportunity for our young learners. I want my students to take a classroom book home each day so they can "wow" their families at home with their fantastic reading progress. What better way encourage those lifelong readers!
My Project
If my students have good quality take-home book bags, they will be able to bring a book home to read every day. These book bags will be specific to hold their "just right" books we use during our reading workshop. My students will be able to choose one of their reading books from that day's lesson and practice it at home. The books are a soft cover so I worry about damaging our school resources, but with sturdy book bags, that will reduce the chances of that happening.
A book is like a gift.
Each day these kiddos will be given the gift of a book to share their reading with loved ones at home.
