Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A professional presentation is the icing on the cake for my student scientists. They research, experiment, and present their findings at our local science fair. The cost of a board is two days of lunch for some of my students. Please help these young scientists realize their goals.

My students are 9th graders in a mostly Hispanic public high school outside of Chicago.

Many of their families are living below the poverty level. They are hard working and want to make a difference in the world. Having the opportunity to participate in Regional and State-Wide science fairs is an eye-opening experience for them. Many of my past Regional and State winners have gone on to study in science related fields.

My Project

By having a project board provided, my students will be able to participate in the local, regional, and state science fairs. Their participation in the science fair exposes them to the rigors and processes of scientific inquiry. They take their own idea, make a hypothesis, design an experiment, collect and analyze data, and finally present their results and conclusions to judges at the fair. They not only gain scientific skills, but also organizational skills and presentation skills.

I feel that it is important that everyone understand the process of science and the meaning of a valid result, so that they can make well informed decisions in their life.

By doing their own scientific research and experimentation, my students get a first hand view of the scientific process and thereby a greater understanding of science and its impact on our lives.
