Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is in a very urban location. We are located in New Jersey. Most students are not dominant in the English language. Our school has a breakfast in the classroom program and lunch in the cafeteria because much of our population struggles with having basic needs met. We have a newly built facility with a lot of space but no funds to provide certain programs or provide certain supplies and equipment. The students are well behaved for the most part, and I believe it's because we have such an impressive facility and amazing faculty. I really hope that we can maintain the building and provide quality programs to our students and community. Our school needs to be more than a school. It needs to be a center and a hub for the community. My classroom has a lot of storage space but absolutely no art supplies given to me by the school. All of the supplies I have right now, I have purchased or collected myself. I really need basic supplies to keep my students engaged, productive, and encouraged.
My Project
Look, Label, & Leave for Later: is a project in which I would like to see my students learn how to label and organize their supplies. I would like to see them proudly display their art work. I would also like to display organizational tools like posters and charts that will help me and the students keep track of the materials in the art room. I have a huge white board that I would like to see more utilized by using magnets to display important instructional materials. Learning to keep organized is a skill that these students can carry with them throughout their academic careers and adult lives.
