Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The kindergarteners in my class would love to be the star of their own show! Using a video camera to record their learning would give them that opportunity!

My classroom, located in the inner-city, is filled with 26 adorable kindergarteners.

Many of the children in my class began the year without ever having learned how to speak English. They are energetic and full of excitement for learning. They support and encourage one another. They love to cheer each other on. They also love to perform. One of their favorite activities is taking turns reading the stories they write into a microphone. At the end of the day, their favorite game is to pretend the carpet is a stage and dance or sing for each other. Their love for performing makes me think they would thrive on performing for a camera and watching themselves on our Promethean board.

My Project

Having a video camera would be incredibly beneficial for the students in my class. We could use it to record several fun and educational learning activities such as acting out a familiar story (this would help students with re-telling). We could record students singing their favorite songs (this would help with English fluency). The children would also love to watch themselves acting out appropriate behaviors for the classroom (this would help with learning rules as well as with English vocabulary). I could also record different students reading (this would help improve their fluency as well as show them their growth over time). The possibilities are endless! :) All of the activities where we are able to use the video camera would help improve confidence in the students in my class as well as excitement for learning!

Learning should be FUN!

I know the students in my class would have a great time watching themselves and each other performing for the camera. It would improve their confidence in themselves and in their use of the English language. It would also be wonderful to be able to share our videos with their families on my private classroom website. The children in my class would really enjoy using a video camera to help them learn!
