Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at an elementary school where 85% of students receive free or reduced lunch. My students range from 3-5 years old and all have Individualized Education Plans. My students are curious ,full of energy, and always eager to see what we are going to learn for the day! My ultimate goal is to give my students a positive learning experience in a school setting. Therefore, setting the foundation for the love of learning and school. Currently, the students need to work on the following areas: social and emotional components by expressing themselves through thoughts and feelings. Also, adaptive skills through communication, social and self -help skills. The social, emotional and adaptive areas help provide a foundation that will help increase the students interpersonal and self-regulating skills. Therefore providing a strong foundation for elementary school years. We are a classroom family learning patience, empathy, and acceptance for everyone. My students are at the age that learning is magical. Let me share what I mean, students have a look in their eyes that sparkles when they enter the room. The look in their eyes is that eagerness to take on the lessons of the day!
My Project
One of the first math concepts children learn are shapes. Children's imaginations run wild while engaged with block manipulatives. These wooden blocks provided endless opportunities for students to manipulate shapes, and create endless possibilities. While the students use the wooden blocks in a structured center, the math curriculum objectives are truly a plethora of ideas. Wooden blocks are one of those centers that never gets old with children because their imaginations are tapped into to be creative. The creativity leads to implementing future math concepts and vocabulary while having fun!
