As a teacher in a Title I school, I know many of my students come from poverty stricken, low-income homes. Some also are learning English as a second language and others have special needs. All of my students receive free breakfasts and lunches at school. Some of my students live in shelters or motels. Others are living with other families.
Despite these difficult circumstances, my students come to school eager to learn and explore.
They are fascinated with the new activities, opportunities, and experiences that I can provide for them. They have so much love to share with me and with each other. I want to be able to give them every opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
Data is an important part of education these days. Showing how much students grow and learn is essential for teachers to be able to effectively plan as well as to share with parents to partner with them at home. It is also critical for students to understand what they are learning and how they are growing.
Students are much more likely to want to learn and grow if they can be a part of the process.
This year I would like to create a data binder for each student. They can keep track of their own work and set goals they want to reach. We will work together to keep my students motivated to grow. I am requesting binders, tabs, and sheet protectors to set up their data work portfolio. The three hole punch will help with putting papers in the binders and the labels will help keep things organized. Please help my students take ownership of their own learning.
