The students I work with have varying degrees of communication challenges from autism to intellectual impairment to articulation disorders. They benefit from multimodal instruction that incorporates visuals and manipulatives when addressing individual objectives. Frequent change up of materials and manipulatives is essential in maintaining their interest and motivation in sessions. Most of our services are provided in a small group setting (2-4 students) but we do provide whole group lessons as well for preschool age classrooms and Life Skill programs.
My students benefit from durable, reusable materials that can be used interactively to reinforce their speech and language skills and objectives. Using laminating sheets with 5 mil thickness and Velcro dots allow me to generate the materials they need. During sessions, my materials see a lot of eager and excited students - which can lead to damaged materials if they are not properly protected. Story book companions, behavior visuals and supports, communication boards, social stories, interactive vocabulary books, and articulation activities are just a small sample of the types of materials I will be able to create for my students using these products. Keeping activities accessible, organized, and fun is key when providing services for my caseload!
