This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Many of our students in intervention struggle with critical thinking, causing them to have difficulty in both reading and math. These games are a great way to build critical thinking skills that the students can then translate to problem solving.

When reading, students need to be able to take clues from the text to make meaning and comprehend what they are reading.

In many instances, this requires them to think critically. For math, they must think critically about numbers, shapes, and more to solve problems. Once students know how to think critically, they are able to translate that thinking ability to other academic areas.

These logic games also help build metacognition as students must think about their thinking in order to be successful in the game. Metacognition is also an area of struggle for many of our students. Playing games are an easy way to teach metacognition because students do not get confused by content that they already are struggling with. They also only see the activity as playing a game and do not even realize they are learning.
