This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all from a low SEL that have little access to literature and are mostly reading well below grade level. My students have high needs for both social and emotion education which impacts their ability to want to come to school and stay in school.
My students need to have positive experiences to help them close learning gaps that were created due to COVID.
Students families have taken the burden of this pandemic and next school year, I want to help my students be ready to learn; by providing them with basic supplies, it will ensure that all students are equally prepared.
My Project
With Locker Pets, students have a fun reward system tied to their growth toward increasing their Reading Levels. District requires students to spend a set amount of time on either IXL or Lexia but after a while, students get burnt out on learning from these platforms.
I want to create a fun, engaging way to engage student growth by rewarding those that work hard toward their goals to earn an Adoptable Pet and monthly accessories to keep their interest year round.
Big adopts are set to occur three times per year (after students finish their diagnostic's then each month they would work toward accessories. The first week of the month is for paper habitats, the second week and third weeks students work towards small erasers that match the theme. These have been wildly popular since students are all about collecting little goodies.
