My students need an Apple TV and iPad to help them present multimedia projects and share their research with classmates. These items will also increase teacher mobility.
Location, location, location! This is not only the golden rule of real estate but the key to success in the classroom. If a teacher has to be "stuck" in one place to be able to facilitate the use of technology, that technology is not meeting the needs in the classroom. I would love to make a change.
I teach in a socioeconomically disadvantaged community.
Several of our students do not even have Internet access at home, but that has not held my kids back. Our classes are leveled, and I have the opportunity to work with our highest achieving students. These kids are very curious and think "outside the box" more often than not, but they don't always have the confidence to stand in front of the class. I would love for them to be provided the opportunity to share their ideas with the whole class even if they are shy. In addition to the students being able to more freely share ideas, I will be able to better meet their needs by being able to be more mobile. I will no longer be tied to the podium in the back of my room during instruction while my students could be more successful with me on the move.
My Project
The Apple TV and iPad combination is a less expensive alternative to the traditional interactive white board. Our socioeconomically disadvantaged school has not been able to keep up with the latest technology, and teachers are often tied to a podium in the back of the room if they want to project anything to share with their students. Incorporating these items into my classroom activities will enhance student learning, productivity, and the over all educational experience. I am very lucky to have a group of students who are highly motivated to learn. This technology will not only enhance my teaching strategies, but it will allow students to teach each other and share their ideas as well. With the new Common Core State Standards, students will be delving much deeper into math concepts. With this technology, my students will be able to use a stylus and show the class a different way to find the same answer to a math problem and in other subjects present their research to classmates.
Incorporating an iPad and Apple TV into my classroom will have a significant impact on student learning.
Without donations, my students will not have the opportunity to advance their fluency with technology. Additionally, with this improvement in technology, the entire learning experience will be improved by allowing me improved mobility throughout the day.
