Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school's mission is to develop civic-minded leaders, accomplished writers, and resilient life-long learners. We are a school founded on the principles of writing, service-learning, STEAM, and resiliency. Our school is a Title I Public Charter that is home to a diverse population of students. 70% of our students come from low-income families, 14% are English language learners, and 14% receive special educations services. I am so lucky to teach a group of students who are incredibly thoughtful, creative, and hard-working.

My Project

Students will have the opportunity to tour a bird, fish, and reptile refuge to learn about conservation efforts. They will also learn of the ways they can contribute to the wildlife and nature around them. Many of our students love experiencing the nature around them and have aspirations to see our wildlife thrive for years to come.

The project will cover the cost of transportation to Living Coast.

SDGVA has a focus on service based learning. Educators have made a commitment to try our best to provide as many opportunities to give our students a chance at exploring all the ways we can help the community around us.
