Living the Good Life: Health and Life Skills Materials

My Students

My students are children Kindergarten through 5th grade in a self-contained special education classroom. Some have disabilities that affect their ability to learn in typical ways, yet they are joyful and creative. Several of them are non-verbal and all have communication difficulties. They have varying levels of atypical motor skills and development. They require constant attention and personalized assistance.

The students of our school live in a low income, rural community with somewhat limited resources, but you wouldn't know it.

My students families put their children first, regardless of the challenges that their differences present. I am honored to be a part of their children's education.

My Project

To reach students with difficulty accessing the average school curriculum because of their disabilities, it is necessary to capitalize on their strengths. Our class offers students kindergarten through fifth grade, verbal or not verbal yet, the opportunity to access learning experiences at their level.

My students will be thrilled to have new and exciting customized interactive books and materials to help them understand and practice health and social skills that students with exceptionalities need.

The creative materials available on "Teachers Pay Teachers" and the ability to download and customize materials as needed, make those materials especially useful year after year.

Students in special education classes need specific, explicit instruction in personal hygiene, nutrition, and mental health. They often find they need extra help learning how to deal with stress, take turns in a conversation, wait in line, and make eye contact in interpersonal situations. Students will experience greater health and wellbeing as they master those skills.

One of my favorite ways to address difficult topics is through an interactive book designed to engage a learner with special needs. Books can be a great way to build general knowledge and focus on specific needs that the student is working to develop. Being able to print the materials on demand gives me the option of making sure each student has the materials they need in real time. Students enjoy returning to read interactive books, again and again, reinforcing the lessons without stress. In addition, my students love to have new and exciting hands-on materials to help them understand and practice health and social skills. Each student should have the opportunity to develop to their full potential. Thank you for your consideration.
