This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach fourth graders in an inner-city school in New Jersey. I love my job and find it to be one of the most rewarding feelings when I can change or influence one student's outlook on something. This year, I have 20 students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and neighborhoods. My students are enjoying their new math curriculum but are still trying to grasp a lot of the concepts. Any donations I receive for my classroom are greatly appreciated by myself, my students, and my parents! I am proud to be a DonorsChoose.org classroom!

My Project

This year, we implemented a new math curriculum. The curriculum is great because it teaches students to dig deeper and really understand what and why they are doing what they do to solve problems. It incorporates reading, solving, and writing into mathematics.

The visual manipulatives will help my students visualize what the fractions, decimals, and percents represent and get a better understanding of what I am teaching them about fraction and decimal number sense.

My students need more dry erase supplies because they use them everyday for most of the lesson and are running out of current supplies. We need a timer to help keep track of the different sections of the lesson.

We are very excited to see ourselves grow as mathematicians!
