My students are between the ages of 9-11. They are beginning to walk over that bridge- crossing from primary thinkers to young, independent thinkers. Most of my students tell me that they hate reading. I try very hard to help them see that reading a book can be so much more enjoyable than watching a movie once you learn to visualize the characters, settings, and plots. My students are active and like to move around the room. Unfortunately, I do not have the materials to set up a reading center the way I would like to with simple things like nice bookshelves and a carpet.
