My Project

My school is buying a lab kit from Carolina, called Building your own Microcosm. This kit has students build small-scale ecosystems and observe the feeding relationship of animals and the natural cycling of nutrients. This is a great lab for students whose only experience with animals and nature is from the internet. That being said, the animals need to live well after the lab is over.

By donating to this project, you will give students access to this ethical experiment and the chance to observe aquatic frogs, fish, and snails throughout the year.

I would like to clarify the experiment students would use this aquarium and the animals for. Students will honestly just be caring for the animals and recording observations about their health. The lab will consist of them feeding the animals, observing natural food chains, and then periodically testing the water. The water tests, which are a normal part of aquatic animal care, will teach students about how nitrogen and other nutrient levels change within ecosystems. This aquarium would give students the chance to learn about natural environments and ecosystems.
