Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income households. Our school has been closed since March 17th and will remain closed for the entire school year. This presents a challenge, as most of my students do not have access to books and some to technology. Some of my students need information delivered with worksheet packets and others need repetitive direct instruction. Despite the hardships they are facing, our students are eager to continue learning. My students would benefit the variety of classroom technology to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform.
My Project
My dedicated students have been working incredibly hard all year, this unfortunate situation has taken so much from them. Our virtual reality is the reality that everything today is virtual. The type of technology I am requesting is priceless; it allows us to connect on a face to face level, showing expressions and emotions - something emails, phone calls, and text can’t do.
Being that we are a business class all the items on my list will not only benefit distant learning, but the materials will be used continuously when we return to school.
This year my students started working on business projects with Junior Achievement (JA). JA wants to finish up that project by having the students present their business virtually. The video camera and web cam can be used individually by the students to do these presentations. These same items can be used in our classroom when we want to record our community volunteer work or when we complete cross curriculum work with our Media shop. The Video Conference Cam will allow me to move around freely when I use my white board to demonstrate mathematical problems or with delivering lessons. When we return to school, it will get a lot of use in our business conference room when we hold meetings with our Advisory Committee. The Book and Document Scanner will be beneficial to the both the students who don’t have access to a computer and needs materials scanned for packet work and the student who has a computer but likes likes their materials on line.
