Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

If I could describe my students in five words they would be: energetic, loving, inspiring, fearless, and spunky. Many of my students come from low-income families and lack basic necessities such as food, notebooks, pencils and warm clothing for winter.

Despite the many challenges my students face, I want to make school a comfortable and welcoming place for them.

My students are truly unique and deserve the best. Your donation would mean the world to them and would make coming to school a wonderful experience. Thank you so much in advance!

My Project

More than 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, meaning we have a lot of students who come from low-income households. Studies have shown that kids who grow up in low-income households are less likely ready to start school at the age of 5 than those who are considered middle class. That being said, we are constantly playing catch-up to close those learning gaps. I am lucky enough to be teaching young 5s for the first time in our school's history to help these students develop skills they need to know to be successful in Kindergarten.

The goal of a young 5s program is to provide a year during which children can learn and grow in a carefully planned environment: a framework that allows children to work on their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills.

The lessons conducted are self-directed, hands-on, and open-ended learning experiences.

Your donation will go towards themed books that will be read to my students every day to help build curiosity in reading as well as building life skills.

Building reading skills at an early age is so important and with your help, my students will be reading in no time!
