During reading workshop my students are expected to read for 20-30 minutes per day. My students come from a variety of reading levels, so I need a wide range of books from various levels to keep my students engaged and interested during read-to-self over long time periods. By having a wide range of books to choose from, my students can become independent at picking books out that are at their reading level, and picking books that they enjoy reading. With this being my first year as a teacher I don't have enough books to provide for my students, and they are becoming bored during reading workshop. My goal as a teacher is for my students to love reading, which can be accomplished if I can provide them with a variety of great books to read such as The Boxcar Children and The Magic Tree House.
