My Students

I teach at a magnet school committed to breaking down barriers of all kinds. In the words of my principal, “BSM School is preparing children for their futures. The National Science Foundation estimates that ‘80% of the jobs created in the next decade will require some form of math and science skill’. Our students are working to meet that challenge and are preparing to conquer the rapidly evolving worlds that encompass high school technology and science.”

As the engineering teacher, I have the pleasure of working with students in grades 5-8 as they are introduced to the world of STEM through the lens of engineering.

They come from a multitude of diverse backgrounds, bringing a variety or experiences and prior knowledge to each lesson. Each student offers a unique perspective as they work in teams to unpack engineering challenges while building rich STEM content knowledge.

My Project

My students come alive when presented with opportunities for hands on, project based, rigorous challenges. They love to explore the world of STEM. These kits will allow students to explore coding and electrical engineering through team challenges that build on core STEM content. The littleBits Coding Kit lets students explore summers, switches, sensors, and so much more as they code real world applications. This kit will not only compliment the current STEM curriculum in my engineering classroom, but will springboard students into deeper exploration of STEM content based on their new learning. It is my hope that these kits will provide students with not just electrical engineering content knowledge, but with a passion to continue their pursuit of STEM knowledge on their future career development.
