Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work with high-energy, interested students in California. My school is in a high-risk neighborhood and has a high transiency rate. 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast/lunch, and 65% are English language learners.
The children in my classroom come from high-poverty homes or, even more disheartening, no home at all.
Often, they are not afforded many opportunities due to their social status. Even though high poverty and crime in our community, my students love coming to school to learn. School is where they feel safe, loved and is often the only stable environment they experience in their day.
My Project
We need a bunch of little things! There are a lot of little things that can make a big difference in providing a child the best opportunity to learn. The answer buzzers will be used at table groups for competition on in class spelling bees. The magnet hooks will hang the student's white boards from their desk so that they can be easily accessed for checking for understanding. The plastic storage containers will be used to store items for long term storage over the summer when students aren't in school. The plates will be used for arts and crafts projects in our room to support student's learning through a hands on experience.
