My students need 2 iPads with protective cases so that they can take them to the aquarium and other outings and create their own documentary films about the animals.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students are English language learners who work hard to learn academic concepts at the same time as they are learning new vocabulary. Hands-on experiences help to motivate them to learn and to use their blossoming language skills to express themselves.
Many of the children in this area come from economically disadvantaged homes and are learning English as a second language.
Despite these circumstances, the children are enthusiastic and successful learners. They are eager to learn new concepts and excited to attend school. My students are faced with the challenge of stringent common core standards and the need to compete with other students to succeed. Many have their first experience with technology in the kindergarten classroom. I would like to prepare them technologically to compete with other students who come from more advantageous circumstances. Donors can help me achieve this goal!
My Project
I would like the children to use the two iPads both on our field trip to the aquarium and in our school garden to make their own documentaries about animals. I teach the children about the animals, and they can then use the iPads to make video reports on them. This is an extremely important practice because with the new common core standards, the children need to be able to express themselves and their thinking orally daily in class. I would also have the students use math apps to help reinforce the math concepts that we are learning in class. The OtterBoxes will keep the iPads safe as the children use them to video their reports.
Your donation to our class will enrich my students' lives by giving them the opportunity to use technology in the classroom as well as in the field.
It will improve their oral language and oral reporting skills, as well as giving them opportunities to practice math skills in a fun and entertaining way.
